Portillo is located in the North East of Santiago, the capital city of Chile. It is on the international route that communicates Chile with Argentina and is 2 hours away from the airport. Portillo is comprised of one hotel - hotel Portillo, one annex called Octogono, and one hostel-type accomodation, called Inca Lodge. Only 450 guests can lodge at ski Portillo and there are 470 members of staff. Portillo is a large resort with 13 lifts (4 chairs, 9 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 758 metres (2486 feet) of vertical descent. Portillo has 14000 acres of terrain and is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers. The skiing is great. It is a small resort for European or American standards, but it has a great vertical drop with great walls to ski down, and nice and long cruiser runs. The characteristic of this resort is that they have four lifts called va-et-vient, that are a series of four or five pomas side by side, where skiers and boarders are whisked up the mountain and then they have really steep walls to come down. We have no information about the existence of any cross country ski trails at Portillo. About one third of the pistes at Portillo are covered by snowmaking. The closest airport is at Santiago but the transfer time is 2 hours.
